The Blackstone Life
The Blackstone grill has become a staple preparing meals in an outdoor fun setting
You can buy a Blackstone Grill at just about any hardware store or big box store these days. I got mine on sale at BJ’s Wholesale Warehouse. Critical for my taste, it came with shelves on each side and a tray in the front.
The art of keeping your Blackstone grill properly seasoned insures many years of pleasurable cooking. There are many Youtube videos on how to season a brand new Blackstone. You basically want to build multiple coats of oil baked into the steel surface. I use avocado oil since olive oil has too low a burn temperature and all seed oils are horrendous for one’s health. The seasoning process is usually done with a friend who has done it before over with a number of your favorite beverages.
The Art of the Smashburger
What makes smashburgers special is the crispiness achieved from very thin burgers smashed on the hot Blackstone. The extreme heat and pressure from smashing the patty on the hot surface supercharges the Maillard reaction, which creates a dark, caramelized crust. This process locks in the juices and flavor of the meat.
The Blackstone is great for breakfasts. We have cooked everything on it: eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes and more. The one preparation that is necessary if you are going to cook eggs is to scrap down the surface well before hand, otherwise you end up with grey eggs. Still taste great, just not quite as eye appealing.
